Morten Storgaard, the creator of Passive Income Geek popped into my YouTube feed one day when I was searching for alternative ways to make passive income online. His straightforward approach appealed. There were no frills, no fuss, just to the point short bite-sized teachings, usually about 10 minutes long. Intrigued, I started to follow him on his YouTube channel where he shows how he built up passive income by building niche websites. The more I learned the more I felt compelled to try out his course on how to build Niche Websites, this is my review of the Passive Income Geek course, as a student taking the course.

- Has been put together quickly, especially the later training.
- Refers to the free YouTube training at various points, so makes you wonder if you could learn enough just through the YouTube training.
- Niche website building takes time 6-12 months before you get any results. (this point is true for all niche website training courses).
Let’ s start at the beginning: –
What is Passive Income?
Passive income is when you receive a payment for work that you have done previously, but you are not physically doing something at that exact moment in order to receive the money.
Before you wonder if this is a scam, let me assure you that Passive Income is not a scam.
Let me explain, in this course you create passive income by building a niche website that has informational content that is helpful to readers.
You will use affiliate marketing methods to promote a particular product in that specific niche or topic that your website talks about.
When a product sells then you will receive a commission as an affiliate of that product. You will need an affiliate link when you promote that product and will need to get approved to become an affiliate by the seller of the product.
It is called passive income because you create the content once and it is always there for anyone who is searching for it.
When they buy the product, you do not need to do anything further. This is because the customer will be directed to the seller of the product who will deal with the transaction and then will pay you a commission for referring that person to them.
There are other ways that you can earn a passive income with a niche website, this is through ads.
You will sign up with ad networks and let them place ads on your website.
When visitors come to your site, they will see products related to the topic they are searching for.
You will be paid when visitors see your ad called page views, and it will depend on how long visitors stay on your site and how many visitors you get.
It is called passive income because you could be having a cup of tea or playing with your kids, whilst someone is looking at your niche website, and you can earn money.
You have done the work already and don’ t have to show them around and sell it to them every single time, that is why it is called passive income.
Passive income is not a scam.
Most importantly, there is definitely work that needs to be put in beforehand in order to have everything working correctly.
That is where Passive Income Geek Course will show you how to do those steps.
What is a Niche Website?
A niche website is a site that answers important questions that readers are searching for on a specific topic or niche.
People may be searching for informational content about a product.
For example, when they are making a buying decision they will want to know more about that product before they buy.
They want to see if it is the right product for them.
Let me explain further, it is similar to when you are on Amazon and want to buy something. You probably look at the reviews to see what others are saying.
A niche website is just like that but more in-depth and gives a lot more information.
It recommends products to searchers, giving them pros and cons and what is useful for them to know about before they buy.
It can also help people who have bought a product, maybe they want to know more about how to use it and what else they can do with it.
Summary of what a Niche Website does:
- Provides Information
- Answers questions
- Focuses on a specific topic.
- Helps with decision-making.
- Makes recommendations.
You can learn how to build your own Niche Website.
How Do You Make Money With a Niche Website?
There are two main ways in which you can make money with a niche website.
Either by becoming an affiliate of a product or by using ads.
As an affiliate, you sign up to promote specific products.
Maybe you have tried the product, or it is a new product you are testing out.
You can sign up to affiliate networks such as Amazon, Commission Junction, Share a sale, JVZoo or Clickbank, to name a few. They have hundreds of products that you can promote when you sign up as an affiliate.
Before you rush off and join, there is a lot more to affiliate marketing, that is why you need a course to guide you into how to make this work.
Another widely used method is by signing up to advertising networks.
The most well-known is Google Adsense, however many do not earn much there and they can be tough in their criteria. If you don’ t know what you are doing, you can get banned which will lessen your chances of being approved at other networks.
The more popular ones are Ezoic (not technically an ad network), Momumetric, Adthrive, Mediavine to name some.
They each have different criteria for entry-level, this is usually to have a certain level of traffic in order to get approved with them to show ads on your blog.
Except for Ezoic, who as I say is not specifically an ad network, they have just changed their traffic approval level opening this up to many beginners, and they will provide training to help you understand their platform more, as you will be your own publisher.
Passive Income Geek Course will show you exactly how to sign up for these networks, and to create an income with your niche website.
Now that we’ ve got those basics out of the way, let’s get on with looking at the Passive Income Geek Course review.
I am sure you have some questions, so let me answer some of them for you.
Is this course worth it for beginners?
- Personally, I thought that it was reasonably priced compared to other courses that were on offer.
Especially for beginners, I think this is a well-placed starting level. As with many new courses, they may start low, and then the price point will be raised later. I think this will happen with Passive Income Geek Course as it is popular. Morten has said that he wants to keep the numbers small. So please check the price point before you buy. If you have taken early enough action before this happens then you will get it at $299.
The cost is enough that you will want to take action due to having spent your hard-earned cash.
But it is not out of the price range that a beginner would not be able to afford it.
After all, who wants to spend a lot of money when you don’ t know if you have the right skillset to know if you can make it work.
What is in the course content?
- Here are the modules that are covered
Choosing a Good Niche
Topic Research
Finding a Good Domain Name
Setting up Your Website
Writing Awesome Content
SEO Tips
Monetization
Social Media
Outsourcing Content
There is also the Build with Us 2021 – Course in Action — which is an over-the-shoulder guide (with over 15 hours of training in this section). This section alone is worth the course price.
Each module is also divided up into sections with more individual lessons.
You track your progress by marking the lessons and modules as completed.
This is helpful to know which modules you have completed, and which are left to work through.
Here’ s what it will look like when you work through a module.
You can easily keep a track of the sections in the modules that you have worked through.

Spreadsheets are provided in the materials of relevant modules, and you are encouraged to complete the spreadsheets at the relevant time when taking the course.
It is easy to switch between the modules and the spreadsheets, which are clearly marked as materials.

As you complete a module you will be directed back to the course homepage.
Personally, I found this frustrating as I had to then go to find the next module. It would be better to have this streamlined to take you onto the next module.
The flip side of this is that it allowed you to look at the modules that have been completed and which ones are left to go.
The upside is that this means you don’ t get too lost as you work your way through the materials.

The main pros and the cons of Passive Income Geek Course
What I liked About Passive Income Geek Course
I bought the Passive Income Geek course on the 4th July 2021. I am in the early stages of the course, I plan to come back and review this in 6-12 months, showing the actions I have taken and how I found the course.
From what I can see, the first two weeks are around brainstorming niches and finding enough topics to write on. There is a lot of emphasis on these early stages.
I think this is the right way to go about it.
Just like the bricks and foundations of a house, you have to get the right niche in place first. Morten spends a lot of time on this aspect.
He does over-the-shoulder training going through several different niches, showing you exactly how to decide if this is a suitable niche.
He shows you the method he goes through to find underserved topics.
There are literally hours and hours of content (over 15 hours in the over shoulder training alone) as he walks you through how he builds a niche website from scratch.
The best part is you can start to build your own niche website by following along using his over-the-shoulder training. Just do as he does, what could be simpler for a beginner?
Here’ s what I liked about the Passive Income Geek Course:-
- Value for money.
I thought the price point was just right. Affordable and not over the top.
It is within reach of newcomers who may not want to fork out a lot on that all-important first course.
Yes, there will be some additional costs inside the course, such as hosting, purchase of a domain name but these are low and you will find these additional costs for any niche website building course you take.
He does talk about some paid plugins and he also uses writers for his content, this allows the site to build up quickly.
This is of course an optional additional cost and will depend on your level of writing and the time that you have available.
If you are just starting, you will probably need to start by writing your own content, especially if you don’ t have a budget or if your budget is small then you will have to decide on whether you will be using his content creation method. There is no reason why you cannot create content yourself.
- Unique approach.
Why is his approach unique apart from his direct and no-frills manner?
He teaches how to research thoroughly at the beginning.
He shows the value in deciding about content creation early on, to find topics that are underserved.
This method will allow you to rank faster.
It is the basis of the course teaching, the foundations.
He teaches you not to fight against the competition but to think way outside of the competition box.
Really, when I learned this method, it has changed the way that I researched and started to write my content.
This method alone is worth the cost of the course.
Here’ s a taster of what he is like and his methods —
Remember the course expands a lot more on that short video.
- No frills no fuss
Morten is straight to the point. Even in his YouTube videos, he gets straight to the point.
He does not spend several minutes with introductions trying to sell his course.
I like that he is not pushy with this.
He comes across as a family-based guy who talks about his son and wife, it makes me feel that I can trust him.
He knows that people don’ t have time to waste whilst he waffles on.
Watch his YouTube videos, he has some fun bits that he intersperses at times to give effect and to teach.
For example this one where he shows how to write good introductions (it’s quite funny) .
- Community
The community is still quite active and Morten comes in every so often to give advice as well.
The community support newcomers or those who need a bit of help at various points.
Everyone who is part of the course will have access to the community.
The layout is easy to follow. The newest threads are at the top, the most active are listed just below.
The threads have categories that help you to see quickly the ones that interest or are relevant.
There is the Everything Else category, cos sometimes a topic just doesn’ t seem to fit but is still relevant.
There are also general questions and case studies in this section.
Here’ s what the community looks like, you can see that it is very active with recent responses.

- Systematic – weekly planner
The course is laid out in modules that you cover.
But there are also the over-the-shoulder trainings to supplement these.
And the weekly planner to ensure that you follow the course in a step-by-step manner.
- Practical — over the shoulder
There is nothing better than watching how to do something, especially when you learn best that way which I do.
There is an over-the-shoulder how to build a niche website from scratch.
There are hours of content and this is what makes the whole course so worth it.
- Link building approach that won’t get you banned
You will learn that building links is an approach that will help your site rank.
Many courses will teach you how to build links and get links quickly.
He does the opposite. I know !!
He does not build links until much later.
He also shows you his unique method of getting links more naturally and will not get you banned.
- Passive Income Geeks Niche Websites
He reveals proof of his own niche websites that have done well.
His biggest site is Godownsize.com, animalknowhow.com (which he has just sold) and sewingmachinetalk.com.
Of course, he does not reveal all his sites but has these chosen ones that he will share.
He uses these as case examples when teaching various topics.
- Update Section
There is also a What’ s New, update section.
Here you will find short videos of any updates that have taken place on the site.
The last one was dated 28th June 2021, so you can see that he is keeping everyone updated with changes on the course.
He lets you know if anything new has been added to the course modules, so you can go and review those again.
He also provides updates on the over-the-shoulder site that was built and how this is doing.
As you can see the course is interactive and kept current.
What I wasn’ t so keen on in Passive Income Geek Course
I would not be doing this review any justice, if I did not point out the areas that could be improved on, afterall that’ s what makes a balanced review.
I want you to know that I am not writing this because I want you to buy, but because I want you to buy the course that is right for you.
- First Thoughts when taking the course:
I have to be honest as there is always room for improvement with any course.
There were many things I liked about the niche building course, but I felt a bit disappointed at first as I had watched a lot of Morten’ s you tube videos already.
Here is why I was disappointed. Several of the modules had links to go and watch the free you tube videos.
At first, I have to admit I felt a bit cheated.
I wondered if I could have just followed along with the YouTube stuff and not bought the course.
I think if you are more experienced and have built niche websites before, then maybe you could manage to do this.
But if you are a beginner then I think that you would do well by buying the course as it lays out the step-by-step structure and has the additional information you will need on how to do things properly.
The most value was in the over-the-shoulder training and also the week-by-week planner which sets out the key steps you should be taking each week, to keep on target and focused.
As a beginner, you could easily get lost if you tried to just follow the YouTube videos.
- New course so not a lot of proof of success rate.
The course has not been around for that long, just 8 months.
Although it is starting to see some reviews internally in the community from students who have taken the course. This is promising.
These students are within the community and some have been sharing their early successes there.
As with any new course, it will take time to build up reviews and to see how well the course is doing.
The pros of taking a new course are that it is priced relatively low, but as soon as reviews pick up, many course creators start to raise their prices. So I like to get in early when I can and suggest you consider this too.
(*Early Alert, I believe that this will happen sooner rather than later, that the price point will be raised).
The Early Bird catches the worm
- Later modules are sparser and feel a bit rushed.
I felt that the later modules seemed quite rushed.
There was little text and the videos were short around 3-5 minutes.
They did not go into any real depth.
These modules were around social media and monetization.
He does not promote social media much as a traffic strategy.
But I do feel that more needs to be added to the monetization modules.
There are the basics there around monetization, especially as a beginner, and he has been able to get priority for members to Ezoic and free access to the Speed site Tool, which in itself is awesome.
Inside Ezoic, you will learn more about monetization and how to place ads on your website to earn the best revenue.
I am sure that Morten is going to keep these sections updated, hence the annual fee.
He is the type of person who will look at the feedback and update the courses in the relevant areas.
He has already been talking in the community that he will be adding more modules to the course for those more experienced niche site builders.
- Links to YouTube videos
As I said, I felt cheated at first that the course referred to the free You Tube videos.
Honestly, in my opinion, he gives away a lot of value in his YouTube videos.
If you have not watched them, then I suggest you do.
Here’ s one where he gives away nuggets of gold.
The key with the course is that he will explain the concepts and strategy, in a lot more depth inside of the course.
The YouTube videos are really just tasters, so if you can see how much value he gives away there.
Then you will be pleasantly surprised by how much more he gives inside of the course.
Which is the key to why you need the course.
Who Should buy Passive Income Geek Course?
This course is aimed at beginners.
But it would also benefit those who have been online for a while and have struggled in figuring it out, so to speak. Those folk, who have maybe been at this for years, trying program after program with no real results. Not able to link the pieces together.
The guide in the FAQ says that the course is also for those who are more experienced and has content that caters to all levels.
Morten has in his update videos in the course, said that he will be adding more modules to cater more for experienced users.
“the course will teach you all you need to know to go from scratch to full-time income. It doesn’ t matter where you currently are on that journey. There are a few modules you can skip if you already have a site but there are also a lot of really valuable content for people who have been in the game for a long time. All is laid out in plain English (no insider lingo) ”
Who should not buy Passive Income Geek Course
Don’ t be fooled by the name “passive ”.
There is nothing passive about the amount of work that you will need to do.
Passive income does not mean do nothing. There will be plenty of work and action that you will need to take if you are going to make this course work. And make some money too.
Don’ t be fooled by the word “geek ”.
When he says Geek, he means that he loves doing this kind of stuff. He is not geeky in any other sense other than he loves building websites. Which is geeky, I guess, but he is not.
*Warning – Don’ t buy this course if:-
- You are not an action taker. If you think you will just watch the videos, read the modules, and will create a passive oncome, then you will be wrong!! You will need to put in the hours and take action daily on this course. There are tasks that you are set and you will need to complete them if the next module is to make sense and work.
- If you are short on time. I know as a mum this might be a problem for you. What I mean here is it will take time in the beginning when researching for your niche. As long you are able to carve out several hours each day to devote to this, then you will be fine. If you cannot find a couple of hours each day, I’ d say it is not for you.
- Long-term commitment. This is not a set-and-forget method. Once you have your niche site up and running you will need to keep updating it with content. The more content you have the better for ranking, traffic, and of course income. But all this takes time, it is not a set and forget method, and will require ongoing time and input from you.
- Looking for quick results. This is not a quick strategy. The course guide says it can take anything from 6-12 months before you will see any results with your niche site. If you are someone who easily gets distracted and loses focus, sadly this is not for you.
- Lacks patience. You will not get quick results if you are looking for a quick way to earn money. This is going to be a solid method and skill set that you will learn and can replicate over and over again. That is if you have the patience to see it through.
- Not prepared to do the work. It is not for those who are not prepared to put the work in and then moan that the course does not work. Please don’ t buy this course if you cannot follow step-by-step actions. Then moan because you have missed key steps out.
What are the Alternatives to Passive Income Geek
If you are wondering what else is out there, you will probably come across many courses that teach you how to build niche websites.
But what makes this course stand out is the early affordable price entry point. (I cannot guarantee that it will stay that way, so apologies if by the time you are reading this, that the price has risen).
One alternative is Income School also known as Project 24 (I have not taken this course, so my view is not as an insider) but I have followed their blog and YouTube channel, when I was building my knowledge about Niche websites and deciding whether building niche websites are still worth it in 2021.
They definitely are as courses like Income School just continue to get bigger and bigger. Which means people much be getting results. I can only imagine that their course offers a lot of great information. However, it is much pricier, almost double Passive Income Geek Course at $449 for the first year, and then $249 to renew annually. They have been around for a lot longer and have tons of social proof so can justify this price point. If you are looking for a beginner-level, low-cost course, then I would definitely stick with Passive Income Geek.
There are several key marketers in this niche website building space who you can also follow. Some have some paid-for training others offer free you tube training. Following them can also help you if you are still feeling undecided.
However, following different people or pieces of training means that you don’ t have a system that you know works and can follow. If you cherry-pick from one and use another piece of advice from another unless you are already experienced, then you are likely to fail and you will end up giving up.
Here are some affiliate marketers who build niche websites and would be worth a mention.
WP Eagle has lots of Free training and step-by-step videos when he builds niche websites, so you can see what it entails.
Doug Cunnington of Nichesiteproject also has courses and training about niche websites.
Darrell Wilson has free training on how to build affiliate niche websites. Again once you have built the site, you will need to know what to do and how to monetize. Darrell doesn’ t have any paid courses, but he does give away a lot of value for free. He does talk fast and beginners might get lost because he is so experienced, he forgets that he needs to slow down for beginners.
If you are on a tight budget, then these are places you can get started to build up your knowledge about building niche websites, so that when you are ready to purchase, you can start right out of the door with a course that you know will help you to reach your goal.
How Much Money Can I Expect to Make with the Course?
The Passive Income Geek course (like any other reputable course) cannot guarantee anyone that they will make a specific income. This is because there are too many variables, like your time, your effort, skills, the search engines, etc.
However Passive income Geek does layout out the following
“it largely depends on how much content early on. But with 2-3 articles per week, you should expect 20-50,000 page views per month after around a year. And that should make you $400-1000 per month from ads and then we can add some affiliate income, which should bring even more revenue. But remember, I cannot guarantee the success of your business, no one can I can simply show you what I do to see success with my sites ”.
There is an income calculator inside the course, which can help you to understand how much you can earn but see the disclaimer and know that no one or course can guarantee how much you will earn.
“We cannot guarantee you any amount of income from your site(s). The tool is simply a calculator that will output numbers based on the numbers you give it. How many pageviews you get and how much money you will make from the site is 100% out of our hands. It depends on your hard work and skills, and the examples across this site are only examples and are not to be taken as promise or guarantee of income or earnings. ”
Passive Income Geek Course Disclaimer
So if you follow all of the course material, choose a good niche, and create really good content using the methods that Morten teaches, you should be able to earn between $400-1000. This of course depends on your input and how much work you put in therefore the course cannot make any guarantees of income.
If you are a beginner then you need to be realistic when getting started and that it is going to take a while to see these income levels, whilst you figure it out.
However, this should give you some sort of guide as to where this could take you if you put in the effort and get on board with the teachings.
